As the first Latino hip-hop group to achieve platinum and multi-platinum status, Cypress Hill also advocated for marijuana legalization when the concept was far from reality.

Recently, the group etched another milestone in its legacy by gracing the stage of NPR's acclaimed Tiny Desk series. Accompanied by touring members Eric Bobo, DJ Lord, and Money Mark from Beastie Boys fame, the band delivered five funky performances infused with the rare addition of a horn section.

During the performance, B Real reflected on the group's journey, stating, "Being here is an honor as we know that many greats have graced this stage. If someone had asked us 30-some-odd years ago when we started, 'Do you see yourself in a situation like this?' I think everyone would’ve said ‘hell no!’"

Cypress Hill's 1993 debut album "Black Sunday" achieved groundbreaking success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making it the first hip-hop album of the year to claim the top spot. The album has sold over four million copies in the United States. In celebration of its 30th anniversary, the group released a deluxe edition featuring remixes of its iconic tracks.

Recent releases include "Back In Black," featuring collaborations with Demrick ("Certified") and Dizzy Wright ("Bye Bye"). Additionally, the group offered fans an intimate glimpse into their career with the Showtime documentary, "Insane in the Brain."

Cypress Hill is currently on a world tour, scheduled to run until December.

NPR's celebration of Black Music Month culminated not in a bang, but in a symphony of soul, rhythm, blues, and rap, uniquely born in the vibrant streets of New Orleans.

Big Easy native Juvenile took the Tiny Desk stage by storm, supported by a full band that included fellow New Orleans music giants Trombone Shorty and Jon Batiste, along with the wizardry of Mannie Fresh, the legendary producer behind Cash Money Records' hits. Together, they orchestrated a Tiny Desk performance that defied all expectations.

As Juvenile shared insights and reflected on his recording history, he effortlessly traded laughs and verses, delivering his and the label's biggest hits. From "400 Degreez" to "Bling Bling" and even the Hot Boys classic "I Need a Hot Girl," Juvenile playfully reminded the audience of his presence in the iconic music video, despite not being featured on the track itself.

"Y'all don't even know, that's my favorite part right there," Juvenile chuckled, exchanging verses with the animated Mannie Fresh. "I ain't even on the song, but I'm in the video. That part resonates with me so much, especially when Turk jumps in. Now, I know Turk might have a bone to pick with me, but he's still my lil bro. Trust me, that's the absolute pinnacle of the song when he enters."

However, it was the grand finale that truly captivated the audience. With the assistance of a cellist and a violinist from the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Juvenile crafted a spellbinding rendition of his timeless anthem to the posterior, "Back That Azz Up."

The Grammy-winning artist took his chart-topping single and gave it an icy makeover in a music video directed by Miles & AJ of SixTwentySix.

The video starts with T-Pain chilling in his studio, but in a magical twist, the scene transforms into a Wendy's restaurant. With his signature swagger, he grabs the mic and serves up a surreal summer anthem that might just leave fans craving Wendy's famous frozen dairy dessert.

"I loved Wendy's 'We Beefin?' mixtape back in 2018, and knew I wanted to work with them when the time was right. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to remake a classic with one of the most classic menu items of all time – the Wendy's Frosty," he said, expressing his excitement about the collaboration. This latest partnership adds to Wendy's growing list of musical collaborations.

In the previous "We Beefin?" mixtape, which paid homage to Biggie Smalls' debut studio album "Ready to Die," T-Pain even featured media personality and hip-hop icon Wendy Williams on a track. The mixtape sparked a playful feud with McDonald's, with tracks like "Rest in Grease" calling out the fast-food giant's shortcomings.

Da Brat, the legendary Chicago rapper born as Shawntae Harris, has made history twice.

First, in 1994, she became the first solo female rapper to go platinum with her debut album "Funkdafied."

Over two decades later, she made history again by publicly coming out as a lesbian, defying the norms of an industry known for misogyny and a lack of tolerance for alternate lifestyles.

"I've always felt like being private is the better way to go because then you don't have so many people in your business," Brat told Variety at the time. "I was fine staying quiet, but my partner is a social media mogul — that's how she became who she is. And when you get with somebody, you have to meet in the middle. So to me, the middle was just letting everybody know: 'Hey, she's the one.'"

Brat's partner is none other than Jesseca "Judy" Dupart, a social media star and entrepreneur. The two tied the knot in 2022 and will continue to share their personal lives with fans on the upcoming third season of "Brat Loves Judy."

This season will focus on the highs and lows of their first year of marriage, including Judy's pregnancy. However, the road to expanding their empire has been far from easy.

The couple has faced unexpected obstacles on their IVF journey, including health issues. As they navigate the complexities of blended family dynamics, Judy's son moving in adds another layer of drama to their relationship, highlighting their contrasting parenting styles and backgrounds.

Watch: Megan Thee Stallion Helps Defending Champs Open MLB Season by Throwing Out First Pitch

Houston native Megan Thee Stallion made a special appearance at the Astros' home opener on Thursday, where she threw the ceremonial first pitch for her hometown team.

The Grammy-winning rapper donned a white Astros jersey and a diamond chain with the words "Hot Girl," along with a jersey displaying her last name and "222" on the back.

While her pitch landed a little outside and bounced in the left-handed batter's box, Megan managed to get the ball to the plate, a feat that has eluded many other celebrities attempting the first pitch. Astros' mascot, Orbit, gave her a hug to celebrate the accomplishment.

The pitch was a lighthearted moment in Megan's busy schedule, as she continues to make waves in the entertainment industry.

Megan is in talks to star in a new Netflix movie alongside Adam Sandler, which will be directed and produced by Josh and Benny Safdie, the directors of the hit movie "Uncut Gems." The film, set in the world of sports memorabilia, will begin production this summer, although its title and plot are yet to be revealed.

Megan is also making her feature film debut in the R-rated musical comedy "F***ing Identical Twins," produced by A24 and Chernin Entertainment. She will star opposite Nathan Lane, Bowen Yang and Megan Mullally, although the film's release date is still unknown.

However, Megan has also been involved in a high-profile court case with rapper Tory Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson. Lanez was found guilty of shooting Megan on a California curbside in July 2020.

Lanez's lawyers have filed a motion for a new trial, citing various grounds, including a claim that the judge "erroneously allowed" jurors to view an Instagram post from Lanez's account claiming that Megan's now-estranged best friend Kelsey Harris was the shooter.

During the trial, both Kelsey and Megan denied the allegations that Kelsey fired the shots that wounded Megan. Lanez faces up to 22 years in prison at sentencing, but his new lawyers have successfully lobbied the judge to delay his sentencing until April to prepare for the motion.

FX has unveiled the official trailer for "Dear Mama: The Saga of Afeni & Tupac Shakur," a new
docuseries that delves into the intricate bond between rapper Tupac Shakur and his mother, Afeni.

Directed by Allen Hughes, the five-part series promises to provide an intimate, behind-the-scenes look into the lives of Tupac and Afeni through the eyes of those who knew them best.

The show is scheduled to debut on April 21st and features never-before-seen footage of the late rapper, as well as rare audio and vocals. Hulu describes the series as an "intimate wide-angle portrait of the most inspiring and dangerous mother-son duo (Tupac and Afeni Shakur) in American history, whose unified message of freedom, equality, persecution and justice are more relevant today than ever."

Afeni, a Black Panther and political activist who instilled her values of freedom, power, and revolution into her son, speaks about her philosophy of motherhood in the trailer. "It was my responsibility to teach Tupac how to survive his reality," she says.

The docuseries will air episodes 1 and 2 on FX on April 21st at 10 p.m. ET/PT, followed by a new episode every Friday until the series concludes on May 12th, just two days before Mother's Day.

In addition to the series, fans can look forward to the upcoming release of the first and only Estate-authorized biography of Tupac Shakur, written by author Staci Robinson. While the book is set for a fall 2023 release, it is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.

Hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg received a grand Scottish greeting upon his arrival at Glasgow Airport for his highly anticipated concert at the OVO Hydro on Thursday night.

The 51-year-old rapper was met by the soulful sound of bagpipes as the traditional Scottish musical instrument played his classic 1999 hit, "Still D.R.E.," in collaboration with Dr. Dre, marking a rare moment of cultural fusion.

Upon hearing the iconic tune played with a Scottish twist, Snoop couldn't contain his excitement and exclaimed, "F—ing dope!" before busting a few moves on the tarmac.

To brave the chilly Scottish weather, the "Gin and Juice" hitmaker was wrapped up in a blanket and donned a red beanie.

Bagpiper Ross Ainslie, who was dressed in a kilt for the occasion, shared his thoughts with Glasgow Live, stating that "It was a very cool experience!" He also revealed that he only had a day to learn Snoop's hit song but was pleased with his tartan-flavored rendition.

"I thought it was an urban legend or something that Jay said like in jest one day or just was some kind of a myth," Blaze recalled. "And I realize as I’m listening to it it’s him singing on ‘Girls, Girls, Girls.’ And I’m like … ‘It’s true.’ The last 20 years, I just found it during quarantine. So all these years, I’ve never known it was a real thing. And turns out the files had been sitting downstairs this entire time."

Blaze produced the single, which originally featured on Jay-Z's 2001 masterpiece, "The Blueprint," and peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The revelation only adds to the memorable moments between Jackson and Jay-Z during the early 2000s, which included the King of Pop's surprise appearance at Jay-Z's headlining set at Hot 97's Summer Jam concert in 2001 and Jay-Z's cameo on Jackson's "You Rock My World (Remix)."

R&B singer and actress Halle Bailey continued to make waves in Hollywood on its biggest night.

Six months after the debut of a teaser trailer promoting the Black star's turn as Ariel in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid” at Disney's D23 expo, which sparked claims of "blackwashing" in the casting of the fictional red-headed mermaid who dreams of a life above the waves, Bailey and co-star Melissa McCarthy took to the Oscars stage on Sunday to unveil the official trailer for the movie.

“It has been such an honor stepping into the iconic role of Ariel,” Bailey said before revealing the new trailer. “It was an extraordinary experience, a dream come true for me.”

The two-minute video opens with a dramatic boat crash and a drowning Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King). Of course, Ariel (Bailey) takes him to the shore to save his life, an act which begins the duo's obsession with each other and leads the young mermaid to make a choice that threatens the world she was born into in order to pursue love with a human.

It is no secret to most how the romance eventually plays out, but Disney watchers have been clamoring for new footage since the teaser trailer amassed over 104 million views globally shortly after its release, more than any other tease for a live-action Disney adaptation.

Disney did not disappoint. In addition to the wreck, viewers were treated to a scene of Ariel swimming through the ocean with Flounder (voiced by Jacob Tremplay) by her side before being confronted by King Triton (Javier Bardem) for breaking the rules by going to the above world.

“This obsession with humans has to stop,” he scolds her.

Bailey responds, “A man was drowning. I had to save him. I just want to know more about them.”

Fans also get a first real glimpse of McCarthy as Ursula, the sea witch who offers to help Ariel become human, and get to hear her take on the antagonist's iconic evil laugh.

Among the other goodies packed into the trailer are Ariel with feet, her meeting with Scuttle the bird (voiced by Awkwafina), and Sebastian (voiced by Daveed Diggs), the crab, as well as snippets from some of the movie’s classic musical numbers, including “Part of Your World” and “Kiss the Girl.”

Tim Story's 'The Blackening' Delivers Chilling Twist on Juneteenth Horror

Director Tim Story is putting a horrific twist on Juneteenth celebrations with his new film "The Blackening," set to hit theaters on June 16, 2022.

The horror title, directed by Story who is known for his work on "Ride Along," "Think Like A Man" and "Barbershop," centers around a group of Black friends who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway, only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer.

According to an official synopsis, "The Blackening" poses the sardonic question: If the entire cast of a horror movie is Black, who dies first?

The film stars Grace Byers, Jermaine Fowler, Melvin Gregg, X Mayo, Dewayne Perkins, Antoinette Robertson, Sinqua Walls, Jay Pharoah and Yvonne Orji.

A press release notes that the film promises to subvert genre tropes and will leave audiences on the edge of their seats. The idea for the film came from a 2018 3Peat comedy sketch about the horror movie trope of Black characters being the first to die.

"I was a producer on it at first, and they delivered this script that was funny as… I won't cuss, but it was incredibly funny," Story told Shadow And Act. "Seeing the short and then seeing what they did with the script, I knew it would be something."

Story added, "I'm at the point to where if I read a script that makes me laugh out loud and I have the chance to get behind the camera and shoot it. I'm going to do it."

The film was written by Tracy Oliver, known for her work on "Girls Trip" and "Harlem," and Dewayne Perkins, who has written for "The Amber Ruffin Show" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine."

Watch: Ab-Soul Releases Raw and Vulnerable Tiny Desk Performance on Birthday

On Thursday, to mark his 36th birthday, Ab-Soul released a Tiny Desk concert, which he called his "second second chance."

The performance is a must-watch for all hip-hop fans. Backed by a hand-picked group of musicians he dubbed the "Soulersystem," Ab-Soul delivered a raw and rousing performance.

Surrounded by childhood pictures, some of which graphically detailed his fight with the rare disorder Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which ravaged his skin and left him legally blind, the artist, born Herbert Stevens IV, powered through tracks from his critically-acclaimed new album "HERBERT."

He also paired never-before-heard rhymes with instrumentals from 2012's "Control System" between sets.

They say there is no such thing as bad publicity. For two Detroit-based wannabe rappers, whether or not that proves to be true remains to be seen.

Either way, it looks like they will have plenty of extra time to think about it.

The inmates at the Macomb prison unit in suburban Detroit, have been separated and segregated from the general population after it was discovered they filmed a video at the facility.

Authorities made the moves after guards found a YouTube link written on a piece of paper during a routine search and discovered a rap video titled "In Dis Cell" — filmed in the prison — when they tried the link.

“The prisoners who were in the video certainly made no attempts to hide or disguise who they were, so staff was able to recognize them and go to their cell and confront them about this,” Chris Gautz, the spokesman for Michigan’s Department of Corrections, told Fox 2.

Now thanks to the two cell phones shown in the video, which Gautz said the men shot back in September before posting it to YouTube on Nov. 3rd, the inmates are facing additional prison time.

Possession of a cell phone in prison is a crime.

"Because while you can make rap videos with them, that’s one thing you can do with a contraband cell phone," Gautz said. "But you can also effectuate an escape, you could put out a hit on another staff member, another prisoner, a member of the public. You could harass witnesses, you could intimidate your victims.

"There’s a whole number of things untoward that you can do with contraband cellphones."

There is crazy, and there is Kanye crazy.

Since stoking the latest in a long string of controversies that have enveloped his career by wearing a T-shirt with the words "white lives matter" emblazoned across the back at his Paris fashion show Monday (Oct. 3), Kanye West has continued to act in ways that have people questioning his character as well as his mental health.

The rapper and fashion mogul, who legally changed his name to Ye last year, recently had his Instagram and Twitter accounts locked for antisemitic comments.

Instagram acted after he shared a conversation he had with Diddy, in which he implied the super-producer and fellow business mogul was controlled by Jews.

"This ain't a game," Ye texted in the now-deleted post. "Ima use you as an example to show the Jewish people that told you to call me that no one can threaten or influence me. I told you this was war. Now gone get you some business."

Meta, the parent company of Instagram, removed the post and restricted him citing a violation of its policies, but Ye was not done sharing.

He jumped over to Twitter, pulled out his shovel and continued to dig.

Ye posted a throwback photo of himself with Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg and wrote, "Look at this Mark. How you gone kick me off Instagram?"

If he had stopped there, it may have remained a disagreement between two out-of-touch billionaires, but Ye's follow-up message smacked of ignorance and hate.

"I'm a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I'm going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE The funny thing is I actually can't be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also," he wrote. "You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda."

It did not take long for some very famous detractors, along with a surprising amount of conservative pundit supporters, to fan the spark into a fiery controversy that continues to burn with no end in sight — partially because Ye keeps adding fuel to the fire.

The latest came in the form of a combustible interview with one of the aforementioned pundits, Tucker Carlson of Fox News.

Released in the wake of the incident at the fashion show on Thursday (Oct. 6). It clearly seemed constructed to be a rebuke of the "left," by showcasing a successful, traditional member of the network's often self-proclaimed enemy who is being persecuted.

For fans of the talk show host and Ye it seemed like business as usual. Carlson contorted his face into a look somewhere between constipation and deep thought while the Yeezy boss made digs at former president Barrack Obama, Black Lives Matter and opined about how he would be the first Latino president.

In all, it was pretty standard stuff for two guys who have made their careers off controversy, and textbook post-death of his mother Donda West for Ye.

What the network left on the cutting-room floor, however, was decidedly not.

Unaired footage from the shoot, leaked and obtained first by Vice, offers an eye-opening and disturbing look into the psyche of Ye. It also serves as a poignant commentary on Carlson's methods, motivation and journalistic integrity.

In addition to making antisemitic claims about Planned Parenthood, he said, “I prefer my kids knew Hannukah than Kwanzaa. At least it would come with some financial engineering.”

He also claimed that Black people were the real Jews, endorsed multiple conspiracy theories and claimed professional actors had been placed in his house to sexualize his kids.

Over the weekend the world finally got a sneak peek at Disney’s controversial live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid,” starring Black R&B singer and actress Halle Bailey as Ariel.

A teaser trailer for the adaptation of the animated Disney classic was released Friday at Disney's D23 expo and already has more than 104 million (more than those of any other tease for a live action Disney adaption) views globally according to reporting from Variety.

It has also drawn praise from celebrities, parents and the original voice cast for Bailey —who has faced criticism of "blackwashing" since taking on the iconic role of the fictional red-headed mermaid who dreams of a life above the waves.

Following the premiere, Jodi Benson, who voiced Ariel in the original 1989 animated film praised Bailey on Instagram writing, "Halle, you were absolutely amazing! I'm SO proud of you and your beautiful performance as Ariel."

The 60-year-old actress added that she had a great time celebrating the achievement with Bailey, 22, at D23 and shared some words of adulation for the film's director Rob Marshall as well.

She added, "Thank you for creating such a stunning film!!!"

The clip gives fans a brief look at the underwater world Marshall has created for the film and Bailey in action as Ariel — red hair and all — as she hits the beginning notes to bring to "Part of Your World."
