A federal judge in Chicago agreed today to delay the fall trial of R&B singer R. Kelly.
According to the Chicago Sun Times, this was based upon finding that prosecutors had raised legitimate concerns about whether the trial could proceed amid the coronavirus pandemic.
U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber said he would revisit the setting of a trial date in October.
Meanwhile last week, the feds in New York brought charges against associates of Kelly for several alleged schemes to threaten, intimidate and bribe alleged Kelly victims.
They also charged Kelly's manager with threaten to shoot up a Manhattan theater ahead of a screening of the Lifetime documentary series “Surviving R. Kelly.”
Prosecutors in Chicago said "they plan to call about 50 witnesses when Kelly goes to trial here." Of those, 12 or 13 live out of state. Eight or nine of those out-of-state witnesses would be traveling from states on Chicago’s coronavirus quarantine list, etc.
