Concert Mic Flung by Cardi B Nets Incredible $99,900 in Auction

Screengrab Instagram
A microphone that once soared through the air in the fervor of a Cardi B concert has landed in the hands of a new owner, commanding a jaw-dropping price of $99,900.

The incident, an eruption of fiery emotion during a Las Vegas spectacle, saw the "Bodak Yellow" star unleash the mic like a guided missile upon a concertgoer at Drai's Beachclub, following a shower of liquid launched in her direction.

Scott Fisher, the architect behind the audio at the gig, initially listed the item for a mere $500 on eBay. Speaking to the New York Post's Page Six column, Fisher said, "I think it's a bit crazy, but to each their own. To some people, it’s a world-famous item and there are definitely collectors that like this kind of stuff."

Cardi B, who was initially under scrutiny as a battery suspect following the microphone toss, can now breathe a sigh of relief. The verdict delivered in the court of justice was unequivocal – no crime committed. In an official statement, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department declared, "After a thorough review of this case and with consultation from the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, this case has been closed due to insufficient evidence. No charges will be filed in relation to this case."

Fisher said he orchestrated the sale as a conduit for philanthropy, with the proceeds going to Friendship Circle Las Vegas, a local organization connecting volunteers with children and young adults facing special needs, and the Wounded Warrior Project, a charity dedicated to restoring independence to severely wounded veterans.

The eBay listing apparently issued a resonant call to action: "If you want a piece of hip-hop infamy and what has now become national and world news, then please bid whatever you are willing to spend...thanks (sic)."

Tory Lanez Receives 10-Year Prison Sentence for Shooting Megan Thee Stallion

The Come Up ShowCC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons
The uncertainty enveloping rapper Tory Lanez's destiny in connection to the shooting incident involving hip-hop luminary Megan Thee Stallion has at last been dissolved today, as Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Herriford unveiled the verdict. Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion.

Presiding over the extensive two-day hearing, Judge Herriford declared prior to pronouncing the sentence that he was disinclined to view Lanez as a menace to public safety—a pivotal juncture in the case. The judge's pronouncement brings to a close the high-profile trial that has engrossed both the music industry and legal analysts.

Throughout the hearing, Herriford maintained a neutral stance, impartially bestowing tactical advantages to both the defense and the prosecution. This approach has veiled the ultimate verdict in secrecy until its unveiling.

Herriford's concurrence with the prosecution's stance of excluding mental illness as a sentencing factor further elucidated the underpinnings of his judgment.

Lanez's legal team laid forth arguments centered on his history of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), stemming from his mother's untimely death when he was 11 years old, along with other childhood adversities. These struggles led to alcohol abuse in adulthood. Defense attorney Jose Baez vehemently advocated for Lanez's PTSD and battle with alcoholism to factor into the sentencing deliberations.

Judge Herriford's observations underscored his meticulous evaluation of the evidence presented. Despite acknowledging the role of alcohol in the shooting incident, he concluded that the defense had not met the requisites for categorizing Lanez's condition as clinical PTSD or alcohol abuse disorder. Consequently, these aspects did not meet the legal threshold for inclusion in the sentence.

Prosecutors championed a 13-year sentence for Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, following his conviction on multiple charges, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of an unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

In contrast, Lanez's defense team advocated for probation and his release from incarceration to partake in a residential substance abuse program. Their intent to challenge the conviction was also affirmed.

Lanez, a notable figure in the music realm, has been a constant presence throughout the hearing, attired in distinct orange jail garb and a black skull cap, seated alongside his legal representatives.

Megan Thee Stallion's impact reverberated even in her absence. Her statement, conveyed audibly by Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta during the proceedings, candidly portrayed the profound trauma she has endured since the incident. "Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace," Megan conveyed, asserting that Lanez's actions necessitate full accountability within the framework of the law.

In a poignant twist, Judge Herriford permitted seven pro-Lanez witnesses, including his father and the mother of his 6-year-old son, to testify. Their accounts illuminated Lanez's philanthropy, resilience in the face of childhood trauma and commitment to nurturing parenthood.

Megan's trial testimony cast a lengthy shadow across the proceedings, detailing the distressing moment when Lanez fired at her feet and exhorted her to dance, as they departed a summer 2020 gathering at Kylie Jenner's Hollywood Hills residence.

Beloved 'Cha Cha Slide' Creator, DJ Casper, Passes Away at 58 After Cancer Battle

DJ Casper, the visionary behind the beloved dance anthem "Cha Cha Slide," has passed away at the age of 58, marking the end of a seven-year battle with cancer.

The news of Casper's demise was conveyed by his wife, Kim, through a statement shared with ABC 7 Chicago. In her heartfelt tribute, Kim described him as a "fun-loving, giving person" and expressed the deep loss felt by all who knew him.

"He was a genuine, family-oriented man," Kim shared, underscoring his strong affinity for the city of Chicago. "He loved Chicago with all his heart. He will be greatly missed."

Born Willie Perry Jr. in Englewood, Chicago, Casper acquired his moniker due to his penchant for wearing white attire during his performances. A pivotal moment in his career emerged in 1998 when he penned the first part of the iconic "Cha Cha Slide" for his nephew, who worked as a personal trainer at Bally Total Fitness.

The song's simple yet irresistible instructions, such as "Slide to the left" and "reverse," rapidly gained traction in exercise classes and school gymnasiums. This led Casper to release a follow-up version titled "Casper Slide Pt. 2" in 2000, further cementing his place in music history.
Reflecting on the enduring success of his creation, Casper mused in a 2018 interview with Vanity Fair, "Well, actually, I'm not really surprised. The song got real hot around 2004. And, I mean, today, they've been playing it like it's brand-new. You can hear it in every stadium, every sporting event. They played it at the Olympics. You hear it everywhere, so I'm not really surprised. I'm just happy it's still going, but I'm not surprised."

Even in the face of adversity, Casper maintained a positive outlook. In 2016, he was diagnosed with both liver and kidney cancer. By 2018, the illness had gone into remission, a testament to his resilience. He dedicated his time to visiting hospitals, engaging with fellow cancer patients, and spreading positivity and encouragement, as revealed in a 2019 interview with the Chicago Sun-Times.

"I'm here. If God says he's got something else for me to do, he's going to let me continue to see what I'm doing," he said, encapsulating his enduring spirit.

In 2021, marking the 20th anniversary of the dance's creation, Casper orchestrated a global fundraising initiative known as the "Dime Drive." Participants would perform the signature "slide left/slide right/criss-cross" dance he pioneered and donate ten cents toward cancer research, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to the cause.

Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Case: Lanez Sentencing Postponed to Tuesday

Tory Lanez
Hip-hop fans, eager for closure to the legal odyssey that commenced when Canadian rapper Tory Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion in the foot after a night of revelry in 2020, found their hopes deferred as the sentencing, originally set for Monday, was rescheduled to Tuesday.

Lanez, known by his legal name Daystar Peterson, stood at the center of an emotional courtroom scene where his father, Sonstar Peterson, a Christian minister, struggled to hold back tears. He recounted the heart-wrenching tragedy of Lanez losing his mother when he was a mere 11 years old. This somber backdrop framed the proceedings for Lanez's sentencing, as he faced charges for shooting and injuring the hip-hop luminary.

Los Angeles prosecutors had initially sought a 13-year sentence for the 31-year-old Lanez. However, the day's events took an unforeseen turn, with the court adjourning without reaching a final verdict. Anticipation now hangs over the courtroom as the proceedings are set to resume tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. local time.

There remain a few unresolved matters to address, including final arguments, before Judge David Herriford pronounces Tory Lanez's fate.

In the midst of the poignant atmosphere, Lanez's father, Sonstar Peterson, offered a glimpse into the artist's psyche, emphasizing that Lanez's mother's passing had left an indelible mark on their youngest child. "But his music became his outlet," he shared, encapsulating the healing power of Lanez's artistic expression.

A chorus of voices, including the mother of Lanez's young son and rapper Iggy Azalea, came forward to vouch for Lanez's character and philanthropic endeavors. In a letter to Judge Herriford, Azalea's plea encouraged a sentence that transforms rather than destroys.

Additionally, it was revealed that Lanez's 6-year-old son had penned a heartfelt letter to the judge, its contents kept confidential. Testifying about Lanez's impact within the correctional facility, a chaplain from Los Angeles County jail attested to the positive influence of Lanez's daily prayer groups in easing tensions within the protective custody unit where he had been held since his conviction in December.

Prosecutors had disclosed the possibility of Megan Thee Stallion providing a statement in court or a statement being read on her behalf. The judge had previously deemed Megan Thee Stallion a particularly vulnerable victim during the shooting incident, though he found no evidence of Lanez's exceptional cruelty or callousness, which could influence the eventual sentence.

Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott highlighted the enduring physical and emotional scars Megan endured due to the incident, emphasizing the gravity of the crime.

In a notable twist, Megan Thee Stallion's voice was heard indirectly. Though absent from the courtroom, her statement was conveyed by DA Kathy Ta. Megan revealed the internal struggle she faced over attending in person, asserting that her absence should be interpreted as a measure to safeguard her mental well-being. Candidly, she expressed the ongoing turmoil she grapples with since the shooting, revealing, "I've not experienced a single day of peace" since Tory's actions. Furthermore, she accused Lanez of misleading others, stating, "He lied to anyone that would listen."

Lizzo Addresses Sexual Harassment Lawsuit from Former Dancers

Grammy-winning artist Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, has addressed the civil lawsuit filed against her by three former dancers, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez. In a statement released on Thursday via her Twitter and Instagram accounts, Lizzo expressed the difficulty and disappointment she has experienced due to the recent allegations.

“These last few days have been gut-wrenchingly difficult and overwhelmingly disappointing,” Lizzo wrote. “My work ethic, morals, and respectfulness have been questioned. My character has been criticized. Usually, I chose not to respond to false allegations but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous to not be addressed.”

Lizzo went on to clarify that the allegations were coming from former employees who had already admitted to being warned about their inappropriate and unprofessional behavior during the tour. She expressed her desire not to be seen as a victim and stressed the importance of respect for women in the world. The singer vehemently denied ever body shaming anyone and stated that she would never criticize or terminate an employee based on their weight.

The original lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, accused Lizzo of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment during the employment of the three dancers. The plaintiffs alleged that Lizzo pressured them to engage with nude performers at a club in Amsterdam after a concert and claimed that she led a chant pressuring one of them to touch the breasts of a nude performer during a sexually themed show in the city's Red Light District.

In addition to the sexual harassment allegations, the lawsuit also included charges of religious and racial harassment, disability discrimination, assault, and false imprisonment against Lizzo and her production company, Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc. Shirlene Quigley, captain of Lizzo's dance team, was also named as a defendant.

The dancers accused Lizzo of overworking them, subjecting them to a 12-hour rehearsal, and firing those she was dissatisfied with. One dancer claimed to have been fired for challenging Lizzo's claim that the group was drinking before performances, while another alleged being dismissed after recording a meeting while suffering from an eye condition.

The lawsuit sought unspecified damages and brought attention to the need for accountability and fair treatment within the entertainment industry.

As the legal proceedings continue, Lizzo thanked her supporters for lifting her up during this challenging time.

Grammy-winning artist Lizzo, 35, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, is facing a civil lawsuit filed by three former dancers, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, accuses Lizzo of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment during their employment.

According to the legal complaint, Lizzo allegedly pressured the dancers to engage with nude performers at a club in Amsterdam after a concert. The dancers claim that during a sexually themed show in the city's Red Light District, she led a chant pressuring one of them, Davis, to touch the breasts of one of the nude performers. The plaintiffs state that they were dismayed by the lack of regard Lizzo showed for their bodily autonomy and those around them, especially considering they were employees of the singer.

The lawsuit further alleges numerous charges, including sexual, religious, and racial harassment, disability discrimination, assault and false imprisonment against Lizzo and her production company, Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc. Additionally, the suit names Shirlene Quigley, captain of the star's dance team, as a defendant.

Specific accusations against Lizzo include overworking the dancers and subjecting them to an "excruciating" 12-hour rehearsal, where those she was dissatisfied with were allegedly fired and sent home. One dancer claims to have been fired for challenging Lizzo's assertion that the group was drinking before performances, while another alleges being dismissed after recording a meeting while suffering from an eye condition.

The legal filing also accuses Lizzo of coercing one of the dancers into touching a woman's breast at a strip club, despite the dancer expressing opposition. Moreover, the singer is said to have invited her dancers to a nude cabaret bar without disclosing the nature of the performance.

In addition to the allegations against Lizzo, Quigley is accused of attempting to convert the dancers to her religion, scolding them for engaging in pre-marital sex and discussing masturbation and sexual fantasies with the group.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and highlights the need for accountability and fair treatment within the entertainment industry. Lizzo's legal team has yet to respond publicly to the allegations.

Vallejo, Calif., to Pay Tribute to Iconic Rapper E-40 With 'E-40 Way' Street

The Vallejo City Council in California unanimously approved a measure to pay homage to the local roots of 55-year-old rapper and entrepreneur E-40 by designating a mile-long stretch of Magazine Street in South Vallejo as "E-40 Way."

This decision celebrates the artist's formative years in the area and honors his substantial contributions to the community.

E-40, whose real name is Earl Stevens, achieved widespread acclaim in the entertainment industry throughout his iconic three-decade-long hip-hop career. In 2015, he released a heartfelt song titled "Magazine Street," dedicated to the neighborhood that shaped his childhood.

The dedication of "E-40 Way" between Laurel Street and Old Glen Cove Road stands as a fitting tribute to the multiplatinum rapper and entrepreneur, who has consistently expressed pride in his Vallejo upbringing and showcased his love for the community through various philanthropic endeavors.

Notably, E-40 has supported the Vallejo Salvation Army by donating turkeys for Thanksgiving andoffering food donations to the homeless. He has also generously contributed to his alma mater, James J. Hogan High School, donating over $10,000 to the school's marching band and an additional $12,000 after the school faced vandalism.

Beyond his musical accomplishments, E-40 has flourished as an entrepreneur, establishing diverse wine and alcoholic beverage lines, including E. Cuarenta Cerveza, E. Cuarenta Tequila, Tycoon Cognac, Kuiper Belt Bourbon and Kuiper Belt Gin.

This year holds special significance for E-40, as it marks the 30th anniversary of his debut album in the music industry.

The official dedication ceremony for "E-40 Way" is scheduled to take place later this year, bringing together community members, fans, and local dignitaries to celebrate the artist's enduring impact on Vallejo.

E-40 joins a distinguished roster of musicians with ties to the Bay Area who have been immortalized through street names. In May, the Oakland City Council unanimously voted to rename a section of MacArthur Boulevard in honor of the late rapper Tupac Shakur. The portion between Grand and Van Buren Avenues will now be known as Tupac Shakur Way, paying homage to the artist's profound love and connection to Oakland, where he spent much of his youth.

Oakland has previously honored other notable figures by naming streets after them, including rapper Too $hort and Huey P. Newton, co-founder of the Black Panther Party.

On Monday, Tupac Shakur's custom gold, diamond, and ruby ring, which he wore nine days before he was shot dead by an unidentified assailant in Las Vegas at the age of 25, sold for more than $1 million. The sale marked it as the most valuable hip-hop artifact ever auctioned, according to Sotheby's.

The legendary auction house showcased the ring as part of its third dedicated hip-hop sale, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the genre and its profound impact on art and culture.Crafted by Tupac himself, the ring bears the inscription 'Pac & Dada 1996,' symbolizing the artist's engagement with Kidada Jones. The final sales price of the ring reached $1,016,000, surpassing Sotheby's estimated value of the item after a bidding war that more than tripled the initial appraisal.

As of now, the buyer's identity remains shrouded in secrecy, with no official disclosure from Sotheby's. However, intrigue surrounds the purchase as hip-hop sensation Drake hinted at his involvement by subtly claiming ownership of the iconic ring in a late-night Instagram post on Thursday.

In an Instagram story promoting Travis Scott's album "Utopia," where the two artists collaborated on the track "Meltdown," Drake appeared to be holding the unique ring.

With the imminent release of his first studio album since 2018's "Astroworld," the rapper is making efforts to promote his latest project, "Utopia," which is set to launch this Friday. On Friday, Scott released the lead single from the album, titled "K-Pop," which features fellow perennial Billboard chart-toppers Bad Bunny and The Weeknd. King of Soul Music Festival Returns to Pay Tribute to Otis Redding and Recognize Jermaine Dupri's Musical Genius

The Otis Redding Foundation is gearing up for the second edition of its annual King of Soul Music Festival, a two-day celebration honoring the legendary "King of Soul" on what would have been his 82nd birthday. The event, set to take place on September 8-9, aims to commemorate Redding's timeless musical legacy while raising vital funds for the Otis Redding Center of the Arts.

Ahead of the event, the foundation announced that it will be honoring So So Def Recordings founder Jermaine Dupri with the Otis & Zelma Redding Award of Respect. Karla Redding-Andrews, vice president, and executive director of the Otis Redding Foundation expressed enthusiasm for this year's festival, particularly in recognizing Dupri with the organization's highest honor.

"We have known JD since he was a young man visiting the Big ‘O’ Ranch with his Dad and are so proud of his remarkable contributions to the music industry as a songwriter, award-winning producer, DJ, CEO of So So Def, and entrepreneur," she said. "He was very close to my brother, Otis III, who passed away in April, and credits him with teaching him to make beats. JD aligns with Otis Redding’s spirit and the Foundation’s mission to inspire and empower young artists.”

For Dupri, the award holds profound significance, as it acknowledges the significant influence of Otis Redding III in shaping his skills in beat-making. In a humble response, Dupri expressed deep gratitude, recognizing the honor as a mutual appreciation between him and the Redding family.

"While I understand the family is honoring me, in my mind, I am also honoring them for all they have allowed me to do, see, and be a part of at a time when they didn't have to," said Dupri.

The festival will commence with "An Evening of Respect" concert at the Macon City Auditorium on September 8, featuring the Orchestra Noir. The performance will not only pay tribute to Otis Redding but also celebrate the rich cultural contributions of African American music pioneers across various genres, including classical, jazz, blues, hip-hop and R&B.

The festivities continue on September 9 with "The Big 'O' Homecoming Show & Dance" at the Capitol Theatre, boasting a diverse lineup of famed artists and musicians. Each act is set to deliver performances that honor the enduring musical legacy of Otis Redding.

Founded in 2007, the Otis Redding Foundation mission is to empower and inspire young individuals through innovative educational programs centered around music, writing and instrumentation. The foundation's annual Otis Music Camp, catered to ages 12-18, and Camp DREAM, designed for children aged 5-11, stand as shining examples of its commitment to nurturing aspiring talent

Redding achieved worldwide acclaim during the 1960s with timeless hits like "Sittin' On The Dock of the Bay" and "Try a Little Tenderness." Though tragically taken from the world in a plane crash in December 1967, his soulful voice and impassioned performances continue to inspire generations of artists.

Las Vegas Police Pursue New Leads with Search Warrant in Tupac Shakur Case

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has executed a search warrant in Henderson, Nevada, as part of the ongoing Tupac Shakur homicide investigation.

The warrant's execution signifies a renewed focus on the case, which has captivated the music world since the legendary hip-hop artist's tragic death in 1996.

The LVMPD released a concise statement acknowledging the search warrant: "LVMPD can confirm a search warrant was served in Henderson, Nevada on July 17, 2023, as part of the ongoing Tupac Shakur homicide investigation. We will have no further comment at this time."

Shakur, also known as 2Pac, was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting after stopping at a red light near the Las Vegas strip. Despite medical efforts, Shakur succumbed to his injuries one week later. The case remains unsolved, fueling numerous conspiracy theories.

The search warrant was executed at an undisclosed location in Henderson, Nevada, with the LVMPD providing limited details. Nevada's lack of a statute of limitations for homicide cases ensures that investigations can continue indefinitely.

The Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, overseen by the late rapper's sister, has not issued a statement regarding the recent developments.

Tupac Shakur's impact on the music industry is undeniable. He achieved five No. 1 albums, including "Me Against the World" in 1995 and "All Eyez on Me" in 1996. Tupac's influence extended beyond his record sales, as he became a symbol in the East Coast-West Coast rivalry, engaging in a public feud with Christopher Wallace, known as the Notorious B.I.G., who was fatally shot in 1997.

Recognized as one of the most influential and versatile rappers of all time, he received six Grammy nominations and was posthumously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

Chicken Wings Go Big Latto Style: Wingstop Debuts Exclusive Flavor Creation

In a potentially mouthwatering partnership, fast-casual chicken brand Wingstop has teamed up with hip-hop artist Latto to introduce a unique culinary creation: Latto's Lemon Herb Remix. The dry rub, crafted by Latto herself alongside Wingstop's culinary team, is now available at all Wingstop locations across the nation for a limited time.

But the collaboration doesn't end with the new flavor. Wingstop and Latto are also unveiling The Latto Meal — a feast designed to bring Latto's preferred flavor experience to life. The Latto Meal features 21 classic wings, two dips and a large serving of seasoned fries.

"I had a blast crafting my very own Lemon Herb Remix flavor with Wingstop," Latto said in a statement announcing the partnership. "As a longtime fan of Wingstop, this collaboration is a dream come true. To enjoy The Latto Meal just the way I do, make sure to request all flats in my signature flavor and pair it with plenty of ranch. Trust me, it's so delicious that you'll find yourself fighting over the last wing, just like my sister Brook and I do."

This marks the artist's second collaboration with the brand. In 2022, she joined forces with Wingstop to support her Win Some Give Some Foundation's second annual Christmas in Clayco event, which aimed to provide local families in need with a Christmas dinner, gifts and essential items.

Latto, also known as Big Latto, has quickly risen to prominence in the music industry with her distinct style and captivating lyricism. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, she gained recognition after winning Jermaine Dupri's reality TV show "The Rap Game" in 2016. Since then, she has released a string of successful singles and mixtapes that have garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated following.

Her debut album, "Queen of da Souf," made its impact in August 2020, introducing her unique style to the world. However, it was her second studio album, "777," that truly propelled her into the mainstream spotlight.

One of the standout tracks from "777" was "Big Energy," the album's lead single. The song made waves across the music industry, peaking at an impressive number three on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 chart.

To bring this collaboration to life, Wingstop has released a new commercial featuring Latto. The advertisement showcases Latto's infectious energy as she delivers hand-sauced and tossed Lemon Herb Remix wings alongside seasoned fries to a girls' night gathering, all while her hit song "Put It on Da Floor" provides the backdrop.

Anne Fischer, Chief Growth Officer of Wingstop, emphasized the shared passion for bold and flavorful experiences between the brand and Latto. "Wingstop fans are always seeking our unique taste, and Latto's emergence as a talented artist with her own distinct flavor perfectly aligns with our vision," Fischer explained. "We are thrilled to collaborate with Latto and present the extraordinary Lemon Herb Remix, inviting fans to savor the remarkable blend of Wingstop's expertise and Latto's creative touch."

The introduction of Latto's Lemon Herb Remix coincides with National Chicken Wing Day, an annual celebration of the beloved dish. To honor this occasion, Wingstop is offering a special treat to fans on Saturday, July 29. By using the code FREEWINGS during checkout on Wingstop.com or the app, customers can enjoy five free wings.
