The Urban Legend is True: Michael Jackson's Vocals Featured on Jay-Z's 'Girls, Girls, Girls (Remix),' According to Just Blaze

Renowned Roc-A-Fella producer Just Blaze has revealed that the late Michael Jackson lent his vocal talents to the once-mythical "Girls, Girls, Girls (Remix)" with Jay-Z.

In an interview with Bloomberg's Idea Generation, Blaze said he discovered rare vocals from the "Thriller" icon on his personal computer during quarantine."I thought it was an urban legend or something that Jay said like in jest one day or just was some kind of a myth," Blaze recalled. "And I realize as I’m listening to it it’s him singing on ‘Girls, Girls, Girls.’ And I’m like … ‘It’s true.’ The last 20 years, I just found it during quarantine. So all these years, I’ve never known it was a real thing. And turns out the files had been sitting downstairs this entire time."

Blaze produced the single, which originally featured on Jay-Z's 2001 masterpiece, "The Blueprint," and peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The revelation only adds to the memorable moments between Jackson and Jay-Z during the early 2000s, which included the King of Pop's surprise appearance at Jay-Z's headlining set at Hot 97's Summer Jam concert in 2001 and Jay-Z's cameo on Jackson's "You Rock My World (Remix)."

Wyclef Jean Admits to Neglecting His Health After Hospitalization

Matt JohnsonCC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons
Wyclef Jean, the Haitian rapper and founding member of the iconic hip-hop group the Fugees, was recently hospitalized due to exhaustion and stress.

Jean opened up about his overnight stay on Tuesday to TMZ, revealing that he began feeling numbness on the right side of his face after returning to Los Angeles from Miami last weekend.

He sought care from his family doctor after experiencing numbness on the right side of his face and was immediately sent to the emergency room. Jean was immediately sent to the ER, where he underwent tests and was advised to stay overnight. "Stress-related exhaustion" was determined to be the root of his facial numbness.

The rapper, who posted a video on Instagram Monday showing himself being rolled away in a wheelchair, admitted that he wasn't properly taking care of himself. "Sometimes we forget that our body is our temple," he wrote in the post. "Be back soon."

The Grammy-winning artist has been working non-stop lately, including the recent announcement of the Attucks Apex AP0, a two-passenger sports car set to hit the market in 2024. The electric vehicle was unveiled earlier this month at The Amelia Concours D’Elegance, a luxury automotive event held in Florida.

"As the Son of immigrants, my parents always told me to dream big!!" Jean wrote on Instagram while announcing the project. "So I combined my two passions and experiences with cars and music and created my dream vision! I’m launching my electric supercar tomorrow with @apexmotors.global @attucksfuture @supercarrooms."

Jean was also seen in the studio recently, collaborating with Lil Wayne. Fans have speculated that the Fugees rapper may appear on Weezy's upcoming album, "Tha Carter 6." The two previously worked together on "Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)," which also featured Akon and Shakira, and became a hit in 2007, reaching No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Watch: Disney's 'The Little Mermaid' Live-Action Adaptation Makes a Splash With New Trailer

YouTube Screengrab
R&B singer and actress Halle Bailey continued to make waves in Hollywood on its biggest night.

Six months after the debut of a teaser trailer promoting the Black star's turn as Ariel in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid” at Disney's D23 expo, which sparked claims of "blackwashing" in the casting of the fictional red-headed mermaid who dreams of a life above the waves, Bailey and co-star Melissa McCarthy took to the Oscars stage on Sunday to unveil the official trailer for the movie.

“It has been such an honor stepping into the iconic role of Ariel,” Bailey said before revealing the new trailer. “It was an extraordinary experience, a dream come true for me.”

The two-minute video opens with a dramatic boat crash and a drowning Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King). Of course, Ariel (Bailey) takes him to the shore to save his life, an act which begins the duo's obsession with each other and leads the young mermaid to make a choice that threatens the world she was born into in order to pursue love with a human.

It is no secret to most how the romance eventually plays out, but Disney watchers have been clamoring for new footage since the teaser trailer amassed over 104 million views globally shortly after its release, more than any other tease for a live-action Disney adaptation.

Disney did not disappoint. In addition to the wreck, viewers were treated to a scene of Ariel swimming through the ocean with Flounder (voiced by Jacob Tremplay) by her side before being confronted by King Triton (Javier Bardem) for breaking the rules by going to the above world.

“This obsession with humans has to stop,” he scolds her.

Bailey responds, “A man was drowning. I had to save him. I just want to know more about them.”

Fans also get a first real glimpse of McCarthy as Ursula, the sea witch who offers to help Ariel become human, and get to hear her take on the antagonist's iconic evil laugh.

Among the other goodies packed into the trailer are Ariel with feet, her meeting with Scuttle the bird (voiced by Awkwafina), and Sebastian (voiced by Daveed Diggs), the crab, as well as snippets from some of the movie’s classic musical numbers, including “Part of Your World” and “Kiss the Girl.”

You can watch the full trailer below for the Rob Marshall-directed movie, which includes four new songs and will be in movie theaters on May 26:

From 'Sticky Icky' to Caffeine Kick: Snoop Dogg Launches Premium Coffee Brand

Courtesy Photo
Snoop Dogg, the undisputed king of all things weed, threw the world a curveball with the announcement of his latest business venture on Tuesday.

The rap icon, who has built an empire around his love for the "sticky icky," has now turned his attention to a new type of buzz: caffeine.

That's right, folks, Snoop has traded in his joint for a cup of joe and launched his very own premium lifestyle coffee brand called INDOxyz.

While some may be shocked at this unexpected turn, Snoop's love for coffee has apparently been brewing for a long time.

"My relationship with coffee goes way back. During the many long nights in the studio making hit after hit, coffee provided the fuel that kept us going," he said in a statement.

"Today marks the launch of a new company I created along with my partner Michael, who introduced me to the best-tasting Indonesian coffee. Indo is going to change the industry, I can promise you that."

The coffee is a joint venture between Snoop and INDOxyz co-founder Michael Riady, an Indonesian entrepreneur. A chance meeting between the duo during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic led to the birth of the product, which the company says was motivated by their shared passion for fueling the people and ideas that move the culture forward, by creating a brand inspired by the creative risk-takers and innovators of the world.

"I want to make coffee fun and cool, and having Snoop as a partner gives us that edge. Beyond being a fan of his music, I've long admired Snoop for his hard work and business acumen," Riady said.

The coffee is sourced directly from Riady's homeland and grown by collective farmers on the islands of Sumatra, Java, Bali and Sulawesi. The green coffee beans are intentionally selected before being shipped to Los Angeles, where they are prepared by a master roaster in-house, then brewed and packaged into the brand's exclusive line of cold brew and whole bean coffee.

INDOxyz will launch with an exclusive and limited rollout starting in Snoop's home state of California, followed by Las Vegas, and then a national retail expansion. The cold brew beverage will retail starting at $5.99, and the whole bean will cost $17.99.

All products will be available at the online store www.indo.xyz, BevMo, GoPuff, Resorts World Casinos in Las Vegas, and will be rolled out in the upcoming months at the following retailers: Erewhon, Vons, Pavilions, Albertsons, Safeway, Sprouts, and Amazon.

Deadly Stampede Breaks Out at GloRilla Concert

Rochester Mayor Malik Evan called the incident a "tragedy of epic proportions."

One woman is dead and two others are in critical condition after tragedy struck the Main Street Armory in Rochester, New York on Sunday night, as a stampede broke out during a concert featuring popular hip-hop artists GloRilla and Finesse2tymes.

In the wake of the tragedy, Grammy-nominated rapper GloRilla, who performed at the concert, expressed her condolences on Twitter. "I'm just now hearing about what happened wtf," she wrote. "Praying everybody is ok."

According to Rochester police, the crowd surge occurred as concertgoers were leaving the venue after the show and was sparked by false rumors of a shooting.

At a press conference on Monday, Rochester Police Chief David Smith revealed that the injuries sustained by the victims were not caused by gunfire or other weapons, but rather by the chaos of the stampede itself.

"Preliminary reports from people at the scene indicate that these injuries were caused from people being trampled," said Police Chief David Smith, adding that they have not found any evidence of gunshots or stabbings at the scene.

In addition to the three injured women found by the officers when they entered the building, seven other victims were hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Rochester Mayor Malik Evan called the incident a "tragedy of epic proportions." He pledged to hold those responsible accountable and urged anyone with information or footage of the event to come forward.

"We are nowhere near completing this investigation," he said.

Watch: Ab-Soul Releases Raw and Vulnerable Tiny Desk Performance on Birthday

On Thursday, to mark his 36th birthday, Ab-Soul released a Tiny Desk concert, which he called his "second second chance."

The performance is a must-watch for all hip-hop fans. Backed by a hand-picked group of musicians he dubbed the "Soulersystem," Ab-Soul delivered a raw and rousing performance.

The Carson, California native's music is defined by vulnerability, pathos, and hope, all of which were on full display in his first-ever appearance on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series.

Surrounded by childhood pictures, some of which graphically detailed his fight with the rare disorder Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which ravaged his skin and left him legally blind, the artist, born Herbert Stevens IV, powered through tracks from his critically-acclaimed new album "HERBERT."

He also paired never-before-heard rhymes with instrumentals from 2012's "Control System" between sets.

Chuck Jackson, "Any Day Now" Hitmaker, Passes Away at 85

Wand Management, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons

Chuck Jackson, the legendary R&B and soul singer known for hits such as "Any Day Now" and "I Don't
Want to Cry," has died at the age of 85.

The sad news was confirmed by Ady Croasdell, of UK-based Kent Records, who wrote on social media: "There are confirmed reports that one of the very greatest soul singers of all time, Chuck Jackson, died on February 16th. His passing will be deeply felt around the world." No cause of death was given.

Jackson had an impressive career spanning over six decades, starting in the 1950s as a member of The Del-Vikings before becoming a solo artist and signing with Wand and Scepter record labels. He released over 30 singles throughout his career, including hits such as "Tell Him I'm Not Home," "Beg Me," and "Since I Don't Have You."

In 1962, Jackson released his most famous hit, "Any Day Now," written by Burt Bacharach and Bob Hilliard. The song earned him a contract with Motown Records and was later covered by Ronnie Milsap. Jackson's "I Keep Forgettin'" was also covered by Michael McDonald and David Bowie.

Croasdell reflected on Jackson's impressive career and legacy in a statement on Kent Records' official website. "No artist had more releases or titles issued on Kent records than Chuck Jackson," he said. He also credited the company's first compilation featuring Jackson's work, "Mr Emotion" (Kent 033), with helping to revive interest in his Wand recordings, which had largely been forgotten about by the 80s.

"Throughout his career Chuck worked hard with his acclaimed live appearances and he continued to sing in great voice up until quite recently," Croasdell said. "He got a terrific reception at the Great Yarmouth soul weekender in 1990 and appeared around Europe on several occasions afterwards — as well as being in constant demand in his home country."

Dionne Warwick, a friend and collaborator of Jackson's, issued a statement about his death, saying: "Another heartache has come my way. Chuck Jackson has made his transition. He was my label mate on Scepter Records and was like a big brother to me."

Da Brat Reveals She's Pregnant at 48

Da Brat, the legendary rapper behind the hit song "Funkdafied," is pregnant at the age of 48.

The hip-hop icon revealed the news in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE magazine published today.

Da Brat, whose real name is Shawntae Harris, and her wife, Jesseca "Judy" Harris-Dupart, CEO of Kaleidoscope Hair Products, said they were inspired to have a baby after their marketing campaign for a new hair product line featured the tagline "extending our family."

"It started as a joke, but then we got a huge response. It was like, 'Oh my God, do we want to actually have kids, and if we do, girl, we better hurry up!'" Harris-Dupart told PEOPLE.

The couple tied the knot in February 2022, and Da Brat said she thought having a baby was "not in the cards" for her at this stage in her life.

"It's been quite a journey," she said, adding that they had to learn a lot about pregnancy and childbirth for women over 40.

Da Brat has been in the music industry for over three decades, with hits such as "Funkdafied" and "Give It 2 You," and has also appeared in films and television shows.

She became the first female solo artist to go platinum with her debut album, "Funkdafied," in 1994.

The rapper recently made headlines after receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in January 2023.

Her induction ceremony was attended by several of her peers in the music and entertainment industries, including Mariah Carey, Queen Latifah, and Jermaine Dupri.

Ice-T Honored With Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Screengrab YouTube

Rap icon and actor Ice-T, a pioneering force in hip-hop and acclaimed performer in film and television, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, one day after his 65th birthday.

Ice-T, whose real name is Tracy Lauren Marrow, was joined by his wife Coco Austin and their daughter Chanel for the celebration, attended by family, friends, co-stars and contemporaries on the world-famous stretch of sidewalk in Los Angeles.

One of the creators of gangster rap in the nineties, he was recognized for his contributions to the music and entertainment industries with the Walk's 2,747th star, located at 7065 Hollywood Blvd.

Speaking at the ceremony, Law & Order franchise producer Dick Wolf, who counts Ice-T among the stars in his long-running crime drama series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, praised the rapper's talent and character.

"Ice has appeared in more of my shows than anyone else on Earth. It goes back now 25 years," Wolf said. "I’m now gonna show how old I am by saying, ‘Ice is the coolest guy I have ever met,’ and I’ve said that to him. I don’t know what the term for it is — ‘the bomb’? I don’t know."

Law & Order: SVU co-star Mariska Hargitay called Ice-T the O.G. of friendship, emphasizing the rapper's deep impact on the music industry and the world at large.

"Your whole story runs so deep. It runs deep particularly here in L.A., and it runs deep around the world," Hargitay said. "You are a rapper and an actor and an artist. And at a time when people overuse words without thinking and wearing out the meanings, you are indeed the real O.G."

Fellow hip-hop legend Chuck D of Public Enemy revealed he calls Ice-T Berg as a nickname "‘cause he’s so cool that he could sink the Titanic and raise it again," and praised the rapper's influence and power with words.

"He brought theater to hip-hop and rap, and you got frozen in the moment like he’s the Black rap Alice Cooper, without biting off the bird’s head," Chuck D said. "And he would hold you in the palm of his hand with words, wisdom, and wit."

When it was Ice-T's turn to take to the podium, the star expressed disbelief at the honor, saying, "I never thought I would get a star — really? I mean, the way my life was going, it was what can we come up in Hollywood and steal. We were really out here causing real problems. And this was just out of the question. Show business was just out of the question."

He also thanked his detractors for fueling his motivation to succeed.

"Last but not least," Ice-T said, "I want to thank the motherf— haters, ‘cause you really make me get up in the morning and be the best that I can be. All the naysayers, all the people that wanted to end my career, now I’m on the Walk of Fame ... and that’s the motivation! You’ve got to let the haters motivate you."

She became just the third black woman to reach coveted EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) status, and one of only 18 entertainers to win all four of the awards comprising entertainment's holy grail.

The 57-year-old actor credited her younger self with the inspiration for the project.

“I wrote this book to honor the 6-year-old Viola,” she said. “To honor her life, her joy, her trauma, everything. And, it has just been such a journey – I just EGOT!”

The award was the latest in a long list of accolades for the talented thespian, singer and author.

Davis was the first Black woman to win an Emmy for best actress in a drama, as well as the first Black woman to receive four Academy Award nominations.

Her other EGOT wins include two Tony awards for her work on Broadway: Best Featured Actress in 2001 for her role in "King Hedley II", and Best Leading Actress in 2010 for "Fences," an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in "How to Get Away with Murder" and an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the celluloid version of "Fences."

Whoopi Goldberg and Jennifer Hudson are the two other Black women that have reached EGOT status. Singer John Legend is the only Black man to EGOT.

Beyoncé Makes History at 65th Annual Grammy Awards

The BeyHive's Queen B secured another throne Sunday night at the 65th annual Grammy Awards.

Beyoncé — the most nominated artist coming into the night with nine — won four Grammys to become the most decorated artist in the awards show's history.

Her critically acclaimed record "Renaissance" won for best dance/electronic album to push her past the previous record holder – orchestra conductor Georg Solti – with 32 wins.

The superstar, who was already the most-awarded woman performer in Grammy history and who holds a tie with her husband, rapper Jay-Z for most overall nominations (88), received a standing ovation from the crowd at Los Angeles' Crypto.com Arena.

"Thank you so much. I’m trying not to be too emotional. I’m trying to just receive this night. I want to thank God for protecting me. Thank you, God. I’d like to thank my Uncle Johnny, who’s not here, but he’s here in spirit," she said in a teary-eyed victory speech.

"I’d like to thank my parents, my father, my mother, for loving me and pushing me. I’d like to thank my beautiful husband, my beautiful three children, who are at home watching. I’d like to thank the queer community for your love and for inventing this genre. God bless you. Thank you so much to the Grammys. Thank you."

Grammys host Trevor Noah added, “We can finally end the GOAT debate; it’s done now – it’s Beyoncé.”

The night was not perfect for the singer whose other award wins were for best R&B song (“Cuff It”), traditional R&B performance (“Plastic Off the Sofa”) and dance/electronic recording (“Break My Soul”).

"Renaissance" failed to win album or record of the year extending her streak of being shutout from some of the Grammy's major awards despite multiple nominations.
