Courtesy Photo USA Gymnastics
Simone Biles added yet another chapter to her legendary career by clinching the individual all-around title at the world championships for the sixth time on Friday. This remarkable feat not only solidifies her status as the most decorated gymnast in history but also exemplifies her enduring excellence in the sport.

A decade after her initial triumph in the same Belgian city at the tender age of 16, Biles demonstrated her unmatched prowess once again. Her performance garnered an impressive 58.399 points across the balance beam, floor, vault, and uneven bars, outshining Rebeca Andrade, the Brazilian defending champion, by a substantial 1.633 points. This victory marked Biles' 27th world championship medal, with an astounding 21 of them being gold. Her latest achievement followed a mere two days after she led the U.S. women's team to an unprecedented seventh consecutive victory in the team event.

Simone Biles' triumphant return to competition comes less than a year before the Paris Olympics. Despite formidable competition from Andrade and Jones, she continues to stand head and shoulders above the rest, a full decade after her reign began.Biles has maintained her dominance since returning to the sport after a two-year hiatus prompted by struggles with a mental block known as "the twisties," which affected her performance in the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Olympics. Although she withdrew from the individual all-around competition in Tokyo to prioritize her mental well-being, her return has showcased her unwavering commitment to excellence.

Her impressive comeback commenced with a remarkable display at the U.S. Classic in early August, followed by her eighth national title a few weeks later. This week marks her first appearance at the world championships since 2019.

Biles' journey continues, with upcoming competitions including the women's vault and uneven bars finals on Saturday and the balance beam and floor exercise finals on Sunday.

Friday's triumph further solidified Biles' standing, with a record-breaking total of 34 medals at the Olympics and world championships combined, making her the most decorated gymnast in history. At 26 years old, she has become the oldest U.S. woman ever to secure a world championships medal. Furthermore, her remarkable undefeated streak in all-around competitions has spanned since 2013.

R&B Star Irish Grinstead of 702 Dies at 43

Irish Grinstead
Irish Grinstead, a prominent member of the '90s R&B girl group 702, known for hits like "Where My Girls At?," has tragically passed away at the age of 43. Her representative, Cory Taylor, confirmed the news to USA TODAY on Sunday. The cause of her untimely death remains undisclosed.

In a heartfelt statement shared on Instagram, LeMisha Grinstead, Irish's sister and fellow bandmate, expressed profound grief and the family's request for privacy during this difficult time.

LeMisha wrote, "It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that my beautiful sister and friend, Irish Grinstead, has passed away this evening. She has had a long battle, and she is finally at peace. That girl was as bright as the stars! She was not only beautiful on the outside but also within. Sharing the stage with her was a joy I will cherish for the rest of my life! We, the family, ask for prayers and respect for our privacy as we grieve an outstanding loss to our family. Love always, Misha."

Irish Grinstead faced health challenges in the months leading up to her passing. In December 2022, 702 disclosed on Instagram that Irish was taking a "medical leave of absence due to serious medical issues." The specific nature of her medical condition was not disclosed in the post.

"It is our hope that she will experience a healthy and swift recovery in the upcoming months," the group conveyed at the time. "During this incredibly challenging period, we kindly ask for your understanding of our need for privacy and your continued prayers as Meelah and Misha continue to navigate and represent 702 for scheduled performances in 2023."

Irish Grinstead achieved fame as an integral part of 702, a group named after the Las Vegas area code, their hometown. The group's debut in 1996 saw the release of the gold-certified album "No Doubt," featuring the chart-topping single "Steelo," a collaboration with Missy Elliott.

702's most iconic hit, "Where My Girls At?," claimed the No. 4 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1999. As news of Irish Grinstead's passing spread, tributes from fans flooded social media, featuring music video clips showcasing her signature dance moves alongside her sister and fellow band member, Kameelah Williams.

While "Star" marked the group's last album, released two decades ago, they continued to captivate audiences with live performances, including several scheduled for the remainder of this year.

Simone Biles Makes History: Clinches Eighth National All-Around Title at US Gymnastics Championships

Simone Biles, widely regarded as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, secured her eighth national all-around title with a commanding performance on Sunday at the US Gymnastics Championships.

Biles, 26, also became the oldest woman to claim the championship, outscoring Shilese Jones by a significant 3.9 points. Jones, the 2022 US and world championships all-around silver medalist, finished as the runner-up.

With her eighth victory, Biles surpasses Alfred Jochim's previous record of seven all-around gold medals, which had stood for 90 years since 1933.

"I think it feels really special," Biles shared with NBC, the broadcaster of the championships. "I’ve been doing it for so long, I feel like I don’t think about numbers, I think about my performance. And I think, overall, I hit eight for eight (routines)… I guess it’s a lucky number this year."After an extended hiatus from major competitions, Biles displayed exceptional poise and skill in her routines, emerging as the dominant force throughout the championships. Her performance on Friday and Sunday was nothing short of impressive, culminating in a remarkable floor exercise routine that garnered a score of 15.400.

As she concluded her floor routine to an enthusiastic ovation from the crowd, Biles was embraced by her teammates and coaches. Teammate Jordan Chiles also took the opportunity to acknowledge Biles' extraordinary achievement, waving her arms to the crowd to sustain the applause.

Amidst the celebration, Biles remained coy about her participation in the upcoming Olympics. "I like to keep (my goals) personal just so that I know what I am aiming for," she explained to NBC. "I’m trying to move a little bit differently this year than I have in the past. So I think it’s working so far, so I’m gonna keep it a little bit secretive."

Biles' triumphant return follows a two-year hiatus after the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, where she withdrew from several events due to the mental block known as the "twisties." Remarkably, she executed elements in her routines that no other female gymnast has successfully landed in competition. The victory propels Biles, who has earned 27 U.S. titles and 35 national championship medals overall since her senior debut in 2013, into the World Championships/Pan American Games Selection Camp, scheduled for September 18-21 in Katy, Texas, where rosters for the 2023 FIG Artistic World Championships and 2023 Pan American Games will be finalized.

Clarence Avant, widely known as the “Godfather of Black Music” for his influential role in launching the careers of Quincy Jones, Bill Withers, and other music industry luminaries, as well as his guidance to legendary athletes like Muhammad Ali and Hank Aaron, passed away at the age of 92 at his Los Angeles residence on Sunday. His family confirmed the news through a statement that did not disclose the cause of his death.

In a heartfelt announcement, his children, Nicole and Alexander, along with son-in-law Ted Sarandos, shared, “It is with a heavy heart that the Avant/Sarandos family announce the passing of Clarence Alexander Avant. Through his revolutionary business leadership, Clarence became affectionately known as ‘the Black Godfather’ in the worlds of music, entertainment, politics, and sports. Clarence leaves behind a loving family and a sea of friends and associates that have changed the world and will continue to change the world for generations to come. The joy of his legacy eases the sorrow of our loss. Clarence passed away gently at home in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 13, 2023.”

Avant's legacy encompasses a vast array of accomplishments. Starting as a nightclub manager, he managed prominent figures like Lalo Schifrin and Jimmy Smith in the 1960s. He later founded two record labels that introduced the world to talents such as Bill Withers, Sixto Rodriguez and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Avant was instrumental in brokering the sale of Stax Records in the late 1960s and later became chairman of the board at Motown Records, followed by becoming the first African-American board member at PolyGram.

He also played a pivotal role in establishing one of the earliest fully black-owned radio stations. Additionally, he was an advocate for black culture, providing consultancy services to MGM and ABC during the 1970s. Avant's influence extended to political circles as well, as he advised Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George Bush and Barack Obama.

The story of Avant's life and impact was highlighted in the 2019 Netflix documentary "The Black Godfather." His remarkable journey will be further commemorated with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in October.

Tragedy had previously struck the Avant family in 2021 when his wife of over 30 years, Jacqueline "Jackie" Avant, a Los Angeles philanthropist, was shot and killed in a home invasion. The incident occurred in their Trousdale Estates residence, where at least one intruder targeted her. Clarence, who was 90 years old at the time, was present but unharmed during the incident.

Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Case: Lanez Sentencing Postponed to Tuesday

Tory Lanez
Hip-hop fans, eager for closure to the legal odyssey that commenced when Canadian rapper Tory Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion in the foot after a night of revelry in 2020, found their hopes deferred as the sentencing, originally set for Monday, was rescheduled to Tuesday.

Lanez, known by his legal name Daystar Peterson, stood at the center of an emotional courtroom scene where his father, Sonstar Peterson, a Christian minister, struggled to hold back tears. He recounted the heart-wrenching tragedy of Lanez losing his mother when he was a mere 11 years old. This somber backdrop framed the proceedings for Lanez's sentencing, as he faced charges for shooting and injuring the hip-hop luminary.

Los Angeles prosecutors had initially sought a 13-year sentence for the 31-year-old Lanez. However, the day's events took an unforeseen turn, with the court adjourning without reaching a final verdict. Anticipation now hangs over the courtroom as the proceedings are set to resume tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. local time.

There remain a few unresolved matters to address, including final arguments, before Judge David Herriford pronounces Tory Lanez's fate.

In the midst of the poignant atmosphere, Lanez's father, Sonstar Peterson, offered a glimpse into the artist's psyche, emphasizing that Lanez's mother's passing had left an indelible mark on their youngest child. "But his music became his outlet," he shared, encapsulating the healing power of Lanez's artistic expression.

A chorus of voices, including the mother of Lanez's young son and rapper Iggy Azalea, came forward to vouch for Lanez's character and philanthropic endeavors. In a letter to Judge Herriford, Azalea's plea encouraged a sentence that transforms rather than destroys.

Additionally, it was revealed that Lanez's 6-year-old son had penned a heartfelt letter to the judge, its contents kept confidential. Testifying about Lanez's impact within the correctional facility, a chaplain from Los Angeles County jail attested to the positive influence of Lanez's daily prayer groups in easing tensions within the protective custody unit where he had been held since his conviction in December.

Prosecutors had disclosed the possibility of Megan Thee Stallion providing a statement in court or a statement being read on her behalf. The judge had previously deemed Megan Thee Stallion a particularly vulnerable victim during the shooting incident, though he found no evidence of Lanez's exceptional cruelty or callousness, which could influence the eventual sentence.

Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott highlighted the enduring physical and emotional scars Megan endured due to the incident, emphasizing the gravity of the crime.

In a notable twist, Megan Thee Stallion's voice was heard indirectly. Though absent from the courtroom, her statement was conveyed by DA Kathy Ta. Megan revealed the internal struggle she faced over attending in person, asserting that her absence should be interpreted as a measure to safeguard her mental well-being. Candidly, she expressed the ongoing turmoil she grapples with since the shooting, revealing, "I've not experienced a single day of peace" since Tory's actions. Furthermore, she accused Lanez of misleading others, stating, "He lied to anyone that would listen."

In a potentially mouthwatering partnership, fast-casual chicken brand Wingstop has teamed up with hip-hop artist Latto to introduce a unique culinary creation: Latto's Lemon Herb Remix. The dry rub, crafted by Latto herself alongside Wingstop's culinary team, is now available at all Wingstop locations across the nation for a limited time.

But the collaboration doesn't end with the new flavor. Wingstop and Latto are also unveiling The Latto Meal — a feast designed to bring Latto's preferred flavor experience to life. The Latto Meal features 21 classic wings, two dips and a large serving of seasoned fries.

"I had a blast crafting my very own Lemon Herb Remix flavor with Wingstop," Latto said in a statement announcing the partnership. "As a longtime fan of Wingstop, this collaboration is a dream come true. To enjoy The Latto Meal just the way I do, make sure to request all flats in my signature flavor and pair it with plenty of ranch. Trust me, it's so delicious that you'll find yourself fighting over the last wing, just like my sister Brook and I do."

This marks the artist's second collaboration with the brand. In 2022, she joined forces with Wingstop to support her Win Some Give Some Foundation's second annual Christmas in Clayco event, which aimed to provide local families in need with a Christmas dinner, gifts and essential items.

Latto, also known as Big Latto, has quickly risen to prominence in the music industry with her distinct style and captivating lyricism. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, she gained recognition after winning Jermaine Dupri's reality TV show "The Rap Game" in 2016. Since then, she has released a string of successful singles and mixtapes that have garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated following.

Her debut album, "Queen of da Souf," made its impact in August 2020, introducing her unique style to the world. However, it was her second studio album, "777," that truly propelled her into the mainstream spotlight.

One of the standout tracks from "777" was "Big Energy," the album's lead single. The song made waves across the music industry, peaking at an impressive number three on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 chart.

To bring this collaboration to life, Wingstop has released a new commercial featuring Latto. The advertisement showcases Latto's infectious energy as she delivers hand-sauced and tossed Lemon Herb Remix wings alongside seasoned fries to a girls' night gathering, all while her hit song "Put It on Da Floor" provides the backdrop.

Anne Fischer, Chief Growth Officer of Wingstop, emphasized the shared passion for bold and flavorful experiences between the brand and Latto. "Wingstop fans are always seeking our unique taste, and Latto's emergence as a talented artist with her own distinct flavor perfectly aligns with our vision," Fischer explained. "We are thrilled to collaborate with Latto and present the extraordinary Lemon Herb Remix, inviting fans to savor the remarkable blend of Wingstop's expertise and Latto's creative touch."

The introduction of Latto's Lemon Herb Remix coincides with National Chicken Wing Day, an annual celebration of the beloved dish. To honor this occasion, Wingstop is offering a special treat to fans on Saturday, July 29. By using the code FREEWINGS during checkout on Wingstop.com or the app, customers can enjoy five free wings.

It was confirmed on Sunday that Big Pokey, whose real name was Milton Powell, passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital after losing consciousness at Pour 09 Bar late Saturday night. He was 45.

Justice of The Peace Tom Gillam III confirmed the rapper's death to KFDM, though the cause of death remains unknown pending an autopsy.

The news sent shockwaves through the internet as fans, friends, and fellow artists took to social media to express their grief. UGK rapper Bun B shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, calling Big Pokey "one of the most naturally talented artists in the city" and praising his humility and impact on the music scene.

Young Thug's Brother Violates Probation, Faces Lengthy Prison Term

Courtesy Fulton County Sheriff's Office
Rapper Young Thug's brother, Quantavious Grier, known by his stage name Unfoonk, has been found guilty of violating his probation after his arrest on gun charges on May 4. Consequently, a judge has sentenced him to nine years in prison, further complicating his legal troubles associated with the Young Slime Life (YSL) criminal street gang.

Grier, 34, had previously pleaded guilty to violating the RICO Act and theft by receiving stolen property in December 2022. Under his plea deal, he accepted a 12-year sentence, with two years credited for time served and the remaining ten years to be served on probation. However, his recent arrest for gun charges resulted in the probation violation ruling. The incident began when plainclothes officers conducting surveillance in southwest Atlanta noticed a black Mercedes G-Wagon parked at a BP gas station. Suspecting potential drug activity, officers initiated a traffic stop after the SUV left the parking lot, citing a violation related to window tint. The arresting officer detected the odor of marijuana inside the vehicle and discovered a 9 mm Glock handgun in the driver's side door panel.

During the probation violation revocation hearing, details emerged regarding Grier's repeated visits to the same BP gas station, which Atlanta police had identified as a hub for YSL gang-related activities. An undercover officer testified that Grier displayed familiarity with the firearm discovered during the traffic stop, asserting that it was registered. Grier did not express surprise at the presence of the weapon.

Grier's journey in the music industry has been entwined with the fame and notoriety of his brother, Young Thug. While Young Thug has achieved significant success and influence in the rap world, Unfoonk has endeavored to establish himself as a rapper in his own right. Unfortunately, his affiliation with the YSL gang and his ongoing legal troubles have overshadowed his artistic aspirations.

His most recent troubles with the law began last May when Young Thug, known for his transformative impact on Atlanta's vibrant hip-hop scene, was arrested on suspicion of gang involvement and conspiracy to violate Georgia's criminal racketeering law. The rapper, born Jeffery Williams, faced charges alongside 27 other individuals, including Grier, named in an extensive grand jury indictment. Among the charges were violent crimes such as murder and attempted armed robbery.

Watch: Wendy's and T-Pain Turn Up the Heat With 'Buy U a Frosty' Music Video

Just in time for summer, T-Pain has put a spin on his iconic hip-hop hit "Buy U a Drank" to pay homage to a fast-food legend — Wendy's Frosty.

The Grammy-winning artist took his chart-topping single and gave it an icy makeover in a music video directed by Miles & AJ of SixTwentySix.

The video starts with T-Pain chilling in his studio, but in a magical twist, the scene transforms into a Wendy's restaurant. With his signature swagger, he grabs the mic and serves up a surreal summer anthem that might just leave fans craving Wendy's famous frozen dairy dessert.

"I loved Wendy's 'We Beefin?' mixtape back in 2018, and knew I wanted to work with them when the time was right. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to remake a classic with one of the most classic menu items of all time – the Wendy's Frosty," he said, expressing his excitement about the collaboration. This latest partnership adds to Wendy's growing list of musical collaborations.

In the previous "We Beefin?" mixtape, which paid homage to Biggie Smalls' debut studio album "Ready to Die," T-Pain even featured media personality and hip-hop icon Wendy Williams on a track. The mixtape sparked a playful feud with McDonald's, with tracks like "Rest in Grease" calling out the fast-food giant's shortcomings.

The lyrics took aim at McDonald's by saying, "You’re No. 1? That’s a joke/Why your ice cream machine always broke?/Why your drive-through always slow?/Why your innovation just can’t grow?... McDonald’s be so lazy/ I know the reason you hate me/ ’Cause I’m fast food’s First Lady/ It’s Queen Wendy up in this thang... Y’all are too chicken for this beef."

To sweeten the chances of success for this collaboration, Wendy's and T-Pain are giving fans a tasty incentive. From June 5 to the first day of summer, June 21, fans can enjoy a FREE small Frosty with any purchase. To claim their free Frosty, fans can use the offer in the Wendy's app or on the website.

Bill's musical genius graced several of Spike's films, including "She's Gotta Have It" (1986) and "Do the Right Thing" (1989).

In the 1990s, a rift formed between Spike and Bill due to unresolved financial and family disputes. "As a girl dad and a busy parent, spending quality time with my kids is so important to me, so playing games is a huge part of how we bond," Ludacris said in a statement announcing the partnership. "The 'Treat. Eat. Compete.' collab was the perfect way for me to share our family traditions with the world and inspire more families to get creative, connect, and maybe even get a little competitive. Plus, I'm excited to give back to a cause close to my heart, Boys & Girls Clubs of America."

In addition to donating over $100,000 to the organization, Rice Krispies Treats and Ludacris will contribute proceeds from the game set sales to support Boys & Girls Clubs of America and help create safe places for kids to play and compete.

The limited-edition game set features custom score sheets, markers, instruction cards, a bucket hat "winner crown" inspired by Ludacris, and a pack of Rice Krispies Treats. It is available for purchase for $20 exclusively at ricekrispiestreats.com.

Ludacris, whose real name is Chris Bridges, has five daughters: Karma, Cai, Cadence, Chance, and his oldest, Shaila Scott. He is known for his hits such as "Stand Up," "Money Maker," and "Move B*tch," as well as his long-running role as Tej Parker in the "Fast and Furious" series of blockbuster movies.

Missy Elliott Joins Elite Company as First-Year Inductee Into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Missy Elliott, the trailblazing songwriter and producer crucial in crafting the Virginia Beach sound, along with Pharrell Williams and Timothy “Timbaland” Mosley, that dominated airwaves in the late 1990s and 2000s, is at the head of this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class.

Elliott was one of seven musicians announced Wednesday to have been voted into the hall during a one-hour special that was streamed on Apple Music 1, along with Willie Nelson, Kate Bush, Rage Against the Machine, Sheryl Crow, George Michael and the Spinners.

While freshly-minted nonagenarian Nelson might have the biggest name recognition, the two-time Grammy Award winner — who was also the first woman rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame — accomplished something the country music legend could not by being the only artist in this crop to be inducted in her first year of eligibility, 25 years after her first commercial recording.

These seven performers were voted in via general balloting, while six more inductees were selected by a select Hall of Fame committee, including Chaka Khan, Al Kooper, Bernie Taupin, Link Wray, DJ Kool Herc, and Don Cornelius.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's chairman, John Sykes, stated that "we're on the road to recognizing all the artists of all genders and races that have impacted rock 'n' roll." With these inductees, the Hall of Fame is continuing its mission to honor artists who have made significant contributions to the world of music.

The 13 honorees will be celebrated in an induction ceremony and concert on November 3, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Serena Williams Announces Second Pregnancy at Met Gala

Serena Williams announced on Instagram Monday night that she is pregnant with her second child, just ahead of her appearance at the 2023 Met Gala, an annual event that benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute.

The tennis legend, 41, attended the star-studded event with her husband Alexis Ohanian and shared a photo of the couple, captioning it, "Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala."

Williams and Ohanian, 40, already have a five-year-old daughter, Olympia, who Williams famously carried during her win at the 2017 Australian Open. Ohanian expressed his excitement on Twitter, saying, "Mama & Papa love this parenting-thing, so we're back at it 😁 and @olympiaohanian is gonna be the best Big Sister—she's been asking & praying for this for a minute. #MetGala."

In a first-person essay for Vogue in August, Williams revealed that she would be "evolving away" from tennis to expand her family, saying, "In the last year, Alexis and I have been trying to have another child, and we recently got some information from my doctor that put my mind at ease and made me feel that whenever we're ready, we can add to our family."

Williams has been open about the challenges she faced during her first pregnancy, which included a difficult childbirth and a long recovery. Despite these difficulties, she returned to professional tennis just six months after giving birth and has since reached four major finals, winning a title at Auckland in 2020.

Wintour, who co-chairs the Met Gala, is a friend of Williams's and the tennis star is a frequent attendee of the event.
