Watch: Morgan Freeman Narrates 'The Dreamer' Trailer – Dave Chappelle's Netflix Special, Dec. 31

Dave Chappelle has enlisted the legendary Morgan Freeman to narrate the trailer for his upcoming Netflix special, "The Dreamer," scheduled to premiere globally on New Year's Eve.

The Oscar winner sets the stage in the teaser, posing a compelling question to the audience: "What do you dream about? Not the dreams you have in your sleep: the ones you hold in your heart." Freeman's iconic voice invites viewers to peek into the essence of Chappelle's latest creation, encouraging them not to be intimidated by the audacity of their dreams but to find inspiration in them. He playfully notes, "What happens to a dream deferred? Lucky for Dave, he doesn't know."

Filmed at the historic Lincoln Theatre in Chappelle's hometown of Washington, D.C., "The Dreamer" follows the success of 2021's "The Closer" and marks Chappelle's seventh collaboration with Netflix. The teaser offers a tantalizing glimpse into the narrative style and comedic exploration that fans can expect from Chappelle's latest venture.

Emmy Award-winning director Stan Lathan, a longtime collaborator with Chappelle, returns to direct "The Dreamer," ensuring a seamless continuation of their creative partnership.

Chappelle's previous Netflix special, "The Closer," sparked controversy with its candid discussions on transgender issues, leading to a walkout by some Netflix staff members. Despite the uproar, Netflix stood by the Emmy-winning comic, and "The Dreamer" is poised to make its mark on the streaming service.

The Lincoln Theatre in Washington, D.C., serves as the picturesque backdrop for "The Dreamer," where Chappelle's comedic prowess takes center stage. Known for his Emmy-winning Netflix specials like "Sticks & Stones" and "Equanimity & The Bird Revelation," Chappelle has garnered five Emmy Awards and four Grammy Awards for his outstanding contributions to comedy.

Receiving the Pollstar Award for Comedy Tour of the Year in 2023, 2018, and 2014, Chappelle's influence in the entertainment industry is undeniable. In 2019, he received the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, further solidifying his status as a comedic icon.

Kanye West Issues Apology to Jewish Community for Antisemitic Remarks

Kanye West, now legally known as Ye, has publicly apologized to the Jewish community for his past antisemitic remarks in a heartfelt Instagram post. The post, shared on Tuesday, comes just ahead of the release of his upcoming music collection, "Vultures."

In the message, conveyed in Hebrew, Ye expressed remorse for any "unintended outburst caused" by his "words or actions." The artist acknowledged the pain he may have caused and affirmed his commitment to learning and fostering "greater sensitivity and understanding." Ye declared his dedication to making amends and working towards promoting unity.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), responding to the apology, acknowledged that while actions would speak louder than words, this initial act of contrition was a positive step. The non-profit organization highlighted the significant impact of Ye's past antisemitic statements, describing them as having caused "untold damage" by spreading hate.

The timing of Ye's apology aligns with the buildup to the release of his new music collection, "Vultures," expected in January. This follows recent controversies surrounding the lyrics of a song with the same title performed by Ye and Ty Dolla $ign in Dubai, where explicit language raised concerns within the community.

Ye's history of offensive comments, including antisemitic and racially insensitive remarks, has led to severed ties with major companies. Adidas and Balenciaga distanced themselves from the artist over a year ago after a series of incidents, including Ye wearing a shirt with the phrase "White Lives Matter," categorized as a hate slogan by the ADL.

The termination of Adidas' partnership with Ye's Yeezy brand, a collaboration that generated about $2 billion per year, marked a significant turning point. The artist's social media accounts were temporarily restricted, and business relationships with JPMorgan Chase, CAA talent agency, and Balenciaga were severed.

Ye's past expressions of admiration for Adolf Hitler and meetings with controversial figures, such as White nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes, further fueled the controversies surrounding him. Despite these challenges, the artist has persisted, expressing a commitment to self-reflection and learning from past experiences.

In response to swirling rumors suggesting a possible feud, Oprah Winfrey and Taraji P. Henson have unequivocally denied any discord and have instead reiterated their mutual respect and unwavering support for each other.

The speculation gained momentum following a viral TikTok video capturing the duo posing for photos atop the Empire State Building during the press tour for their upcoming film, "The Color Purple," scheduled for release on December 25. Fans speculated on tension between the two, particularly noting a moment when Oprah appeared to glance at Taraji before looking away, and Taraji seemed emotional.

The video surfaced just days after Taraji candidly addressed the persistent issue of pay disparity in Hollywood for Black women, expressing her exhaustion over the ongoing struggle during an interview. Speculations arose that the rumored tension between Taraji and Oprah might be linked to these recent remarks.

However, Taraji took to Instagram to set the record straight, sharing a photo of herself and Oprah and praising the media mogul for her unwavering support and guidance. In a lengthy message, Taraji emphasized that Oprah has been a "steady and solid beacon of light" for the entire cast of "The Color Purple."

“She has provided ENCOURAGEMENT, GUIDANCE, and UNWAVERING SUPPORT to us all,” Taraji wrote. She acknowledged Oprah's personal accessibility, stating that a single call and conversation with the decision-making Black woman made her feel heard.

Oprah, in response to the rumors, also shared her sentiments about Taraji, expressing her admiration for the actress and singer. “I’ve long admired Taraji. She can make you laugh, cry, cheer, and feel everything in between," Oprah wrote. "Taraji the actress: A force. Taraji the singer? A complete revelation. What I love about her portrayal of Shug Avery is that she plays her like a woman who not only sang the blues but had lived the blues."

In her Instagram post, Taraji also addressed the broader issue of support among women of color, emphasizing the importance of unity across industries. “It is so important for black women and ALL women of color to support each other. It is also imperative to have women of color in decision-making positions across ALL industries,” she noted.

Moo-ving Victory: Ne-Yo Unmasked as 'Masked Singer' Winner

The enigmatic journey of Grammy-winning R&B sensation Ne-Yo took a surprising turn on Wednesday night when he was triumphantly unmasked as the winner of Fox's hit show, "The Masked Singer," leaving fans wondering with renewed interest, "Where has Ne-Yo been?"

After nearly three months of mesmerizing audiences disguised as a retro diner waitress cow, Ne-Yo clinched the Season 10 title. His final performance, a rendition of Rihanna's "Take a Bow" delivered while still in costume, left both judges and viewers in awe. Panelists Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger correctly identified the masked artist, while Jenny McCarthy and Ken Jeong were delightfully surprised.
Ne-Yo revealed a strategic reason for choosing the "female cow" persona. "I intentionally threw them off track," the singer — who previously competed on the U.K. version of "The Masked Singer" where he was a finalist but did not win — said. His calculated move worked, allowing him to outwit the judges and ultimately defeat fellow finalist John Schneider, masked as Donut.

The 44-year-old artist, renowned for hits like "Miss Independent" and "Because of You," dedicated his victory to the powerful women who shaped his life, particularly his mother. "What I learned in that house is the strength of a woman — I’m talking physical and mental," he shared. He elaborated on the valuable lessons he learned from these influential figures, emphasizing the importance of listening, emotional intelligence, and self-reliance. "My mother has been my rock my whole life, — she still is to this day," he added.
Now joining the esteemed ranks of "Masked Singer" champions like T-Pain, Jewel, and Teyana Taylor, Ne-Yo celebrated his victory as a remarkable return to the limelight. Reflecting on his unexpected win and unconventional costume choice, he expressed pure joy. "I had so much fun. Even if I hadn't won, I still would've just totally enjoyed the experience. I never thought that one of my most fun stage performances would be with me dressed up as a female cow of all things. I never would've imagined that."

Unstoppable Force: 'Pink Friday 2' Cements Nicki Minaj as Billboard Charts Ruler with Triple Crown

In a resounding triumph for Nicki Minaj, her latest release, "Pink Friday 2," has not only asserted her dominance in the rap genre but has also etched her name in the annals of music history. The album's success has catapulted Minaj to new heights, securing her status as the female rapper with the most No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, a remarkable three in total. Additionally, "Pink Friday 2" claims the title of the biggest female rap album of the decade. The album's impressive performance, amassing over 228,000 units in total consumption and boasting 170 million album streams, underscores Minaj's unwavering influence in the industry. With this feat, she becomes the first female rapper to achieve a No. 1 album in two different decades, a testament to her enduring chart-topping prowess.

"Pink Friday 2" not only dominated the overall Billboard 200 but also clinched the top spots on the "Album Sales," "R&B/Hip-Hop Albums," and "Rap Albums" charts. The success culminates in a top-ten overall album debut for the year, solidifying Minaj's reputation as a force to be reckoned with.

Minaj's impact extends beyond album sales to Billboard's Hot Rap Songs chart, where she notches her 50th top 10, tying for the third-most among all acts. The achievement is propelled by three new tracks from "Pink Friday 2," including "Everybody" (No. 3), "FTCU" (No. 5), and "Barbie Dangerous" (No. 10). This accomplishment positions Minaj alongside rap heavyweights Kanye West and reflects her exceptional influence in the rap genre.

As she secures her place in the upper echelons of Hot Rap Songs, Minaj's tally of top 10 hits now stands at 50, sharing the third position with Kanye West. Drake and Lil Wayne hold the top two spots with 133 and 54 top 10 hits, respectively.

"Pink Friday 2" doesn't stop at the three top 10 hits, extending its impact with nine more debuts on the Hot Rap Songs chart. These include tracks such as "Let Me Calm Down," featuring J. Cole, and "Beep Beep," reinforcing Minaj's versatility and widespread appeal.

This monumental success aligns with Minaj's recent birthday celebration on December 8th, marking her forty-first year and coinciding with the album's release. Despite a career spanning over a decade and a half, "Pink Friday 2" stands as only Minaj's fifth studio project, emphasizing the thoughtful pace at which she crafts her albums.

While the album showcases Minaj's signature rap style and features collaborations with artists like Lil Uzi Vert and J. Cole, it also delves into introspective moments. The track "Are You Gone Already" reflects on the tragic death of Minaj's father in a hit-and-run in 2021, adding depth to the album's narrative.

However, the extensive length of "PF2" – twenty-two tracks over seventy minutes – poses a challenge, leaving the album feeling somewhat unfocused. Minaj's biting humor and rap prowess shine through, but the sheer volume of tracks occasionally dilutes the impact of her message.

Despite its minor shortcomings, "Pink Friday 2" has secured Minaj's record as the female rapper with the most No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, reinforcing her indelible mark on the rap landscape. As Minaj continues to shape the narrative of female rap, her achievements with "Pink Friday 2" serve as a testament to her enduring influence and artistry.

Watch: From Geto Boys to Grandmaster, Scarface Reigns in Soulful Tiny Desk Concert

In the realm of hip-hop, Scarface, also known as Facemob and Brad Jordan, has etched his legacy as one of the genre's most influential storytellers. Monday on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert, the legendary emcee and producer delivered a 30-minute set that stands as a testament to a rap career spanning decades, defined from his time as a seminal member of Houston's Geto Boys to his stellar solo journey.

Anticipation for Scarface's Tiny Desk appearance crackled after DJ Cuzzin B, the series' producer, declared on X (formerly Twitter) last week, "Just watched an edit of Scarface's Tiny Desk. Yeah.... it's the best hip-hop Tiny Desk we've ever put out. A new crown holder.... Monday." The hype proved prescient.

From introducing his backup band to the final song, Scarface took the audience on an intimate lyrical and musical journey, raw and unflinchingly honest yet undeniably entertaining.

I swear," before launching into the rap star's signature tune, "On My Block." The performance is gritty, soulful, and captures the essence of what has made Scarface's hip-hop career special.

Days before the show, Scarface added a surprise element by bringing in Dean, elevating the performance with unmatched authenticity and shared stories. This dynamic collaboration underscored the profound impact Dean's production has had on Scarface's classics and Rap-A-Lot records.

Scarface's influence extends beyond the stage, as evidenced by his recent recognition alongside Rakim with the inaugural Hip-Hop Grandmaster Award from the Paid in Full Foundation.
